Ministers force Edinburgh council to reinstate city centre tram terminus

Edinburgh’s first tram route will serve the city centre after pressure from the Scottish Government prompted councillors into an abrupt U-turn on plans to terminate the line outside the central area.

Councillors last week voted to build the line from the airport all the way to St Andrew Square in the city’s east end, reversing last month’s decision to terminate the route at Haymarket on the western edge of the city centre. The decision leaves the council with a £231m...
