There’s no doubt that London needs and deserves a better public transport system with more capacity. However, so do the next tier of city regions.

In an environment where public spending will be reduced in the next few years there will be concern in the regions that the balance of spend between London and the rest of the country will be further skewed by the number of major schemes now committed for London.
