Peak fares plan to manage capacity may miss a trick
The fares consultation published alongside the UK government’s rail Command Paper generated huge publicity, predominantly surrounding proposals for new flexible season tickets, shoulder peak discount fares and the extension of smart ticketing.
The govenment has linked its thinking with the already programmed introduction of much more user friendly travel payment, suggesting that tickets could in future be offered through a much wider range of outlets.
