Virgin launches domestic air service after losing rail franchise
Virgin Atlantic Airways today announced plans to fly from London Heathrow to Manchester Airport from March 2013, barely a week after the Virgin Group’s rail division lost the franchise to operate rail services between the two cities. The new route is the airline’s first foray into domestic flying but the company says that its decision to run London-Manchester air services signals the development of a network that will provide regional feeds to its long-haul services.
