DfT hails £5.5bn West Coast improvements but faces claims deal undeliverable
The DfT said that passengers would benefit from more trains and more seats as it announced FirstGroup as the new operator for the £5.5bn ‘InterCity West Coast’ franchise from London to Glasgow.
First West Coast has committed to introducing 11 new six-car electric trains to enable around 12,000 more seats to be provided a day across the franchise, including greater capacity on the Birmingham to Scotland route in addition to 28,000 extra daily seats currently being introduced...
