TfL halts Blackwall 'tidal flow' operations
Transport for London says it expects morning peak congestion on the southern approach to the Blackwall Tunnel in east London to worsen following the sudden decision to cease the practice of allowing peak hour tidal flow operation in the southbound tunnel.
Northbound motorists have been able to use one of the lanes in the southbound tunnel during the morning peak since the 'tidal flow' system was introduced in 1978 in response to the heavy demand for northbound traffic.
