Pressure for blanket 20mph limits
A plan to extend 20mph speed limits across most residential roads in England within ten years will be considered at the Liberal Democrat conference next month.
A conference motion says the Government should give councils financial support to reduce speed limits from 30mph and that a DfT minister should be “put in charge of the national conversion to 20mph limits in residential areas and report at least annually”.

LB Islington is trying to cover all its local roads with a 20mph limit, bus routes and all.
The proposals are quite bizarre as where there is joint responsibility for a section of road with another borough, it is a 30 limit, but if the road is then wholly in Islington for a few metres / yards, it is to be 20mph.
Blanket 20mph restrictions are not practical, local road 20mph restrictions are.
Right speed in the right place.
