Network Rail to launch new station opening fund
Network Rail is to launch a funding competition to help deliver new rail stations on the network.
The DfT is making an initial allocation of £20m to the fund.
The plan was omitted from the documents accompanying the Government’s five-year (2014/15-2018/19) funding deal for the railways announced last month (LTT 20 Jul). But transport secretary Justine Greening mentioned the fund in the House of Commons.

Not before time!
Many communities have been crying out for new and reopened stations, but getting funding for these (except in Scotland & Wales) has proved very difficult.
£20 million is a good start but it won't buy many stations at Network Rail's prices!
