Rear seat ‘airbags’ close to UK launch

Inflatable ‘air bag’ rear seatbelts will soon be available in the UK as an optional extra in the new Ford Mondeo model, at a cost of £250. The new seatbelt design, which can inflate in less than 40 milliseconds, is, Ford says, being introduced “to reduce head, neck and chest injuries for rear-seat passengers, [who are] often children and older passengers who can be more vulnerable to such injuries”.
