£900m bill for Thames crossings
Transport for London’s plans for a new road tunnel and vehicle ferry across the Thames in east London are expected to cost almost £900m. Michele Dix, TfL’s managing director of planning, said the Silvertown tunnel, which would be built adjacent to the existing Blackwall tunnel, had a preliminary cost of £700m, including inflation and optimism bias but excluding financing costs, and a benefit:cost ratio of “around 3:1”.
