Technology cannot solve all of our transport problems

Mike Crowhurst

I was surprised and disappointed to read on your front page article this week that Ken Livingstone, of all people, appears to subscribe to the George Bush school of futurology, namely that technology will always get us off the hook in the nick of time and save our bacon, so we will not have to modify our profligate lifestyles, specifically our addiction to motor cars ('Clean cars will cancel climate case against new rods - Mayor' LTT 27 Sep). Thus he defends his Thames Gateway bridge.
