Rural railways: no closures
Rural rail supporters will be comforted by the White Paper's commitment to safeguard the existing passenger rail network for at least the next five years. "The Government will not close any regional or rural routes in the period covered by the HLOS," says the DfT. "Nor does it envisage re-opening lines."
