OFT to rule on First/Stagecoach Devon deal

Stagecoach has agreed to buy FirstGroup’s Barnstaple-based North Devon operations for £2.8m. The business unit will be combined with Stagecoach’s existing operations in the area, which also operate from a depot in Barnstaple. The deal will require approval from the Office of Fair Trading and is seen as a test case of whether the OFT will take a tougher stance on blocking mergers following the Competition Commission’s inquiry into the local bus market.
